Jason Anthony Gomez, Composer-In-Residence
To further artistic growth and programming innovation, OSM is pleased to have established our very first Composer-in-Residence position in 2026 with Jason Anthony Gomez selected for this inaugural role. Gomez’s first project with OSM was as composer of Potentia which received its world premiere performance in 2025. Beyond receiving high acclaim by both the musicians and audience, Potentia earned Gomez recognition as a national finalist in the “Composers (Music for Orchestras)” category in The American Prize National Nonprofit Competitions in the Performing Arts. Building on the success of this collaboration, Gomez’s Composer-in-Residence relationship will deepen the artistic dialogue between Orchestra Santa Monica, its musicians, and the community it serves.
As of 2026, two important projects for our composer-in-residence are underway. First, a professional studio recording of Potentia was made this summer at Sony Picture Studios which Gomez has and will be deeply involved in, through post-production and distribution. Second, Gomez was commissioned to write a new work for OSM’s 2026-27 season. This piece entitled Midnight on the Delaware: An American Reflection, will be premiered in in Fall 2026.
As a composer, Gomez’s work centers on storytelling and history through music. He strives to blend rich orchestration with lyrical, accessible harmonies to create meaningful listening experiences that resonate with diverse audiences. A hallmark of his work is writing with local communities at the heart of each project. Gomez’s goal is to make composition a visible and vibrant part of OSM’s identity—where audiences can witness the creative process in real time and the organization is recognized as a champion for new music and creative collaboration.
